Amir Khan beats Marcos Maidana to defend WBA title

The sensational British Pakistani Amir Khan  successfully defended his WBA light-welterweight title with a unanimous points victory over Marcos Maidana  in Las Vegas. This was an action packed thriller between the Bolton fighter and the Argentinian. Not only did Khan stand in with Maidana in a ferocious and exciting battle, he survived some brutal shots. At one point in the 10th round he had faced an almost a knockout in bid to defend his light-welterweight title, but he kept his nerves strong and was able to convert this into a victory in Mandalay Bay Events Center.

The final score by the judges was 114-111, 114-111, 113-112.
"You can tell by his record he's a strong puncher and I took everything he gave me," Khan said proudly.
Maidana has had a record of 29-2 with 27 KOs before going into the title winning battle proving him to be true profesional. He had won six consecutive bouts finally falling the the 2004 Olympic silver medalist.
Many critics believed Khan's vunerability to be a factor , going back to the match with Breidis Prescott where he got knocked out in just 54 seconds in 2008.But he proved his critics wrong this time and finishing the fight with blood dripping from his nose after taking several fierce shots and finished the bout ending in retaining his title. This fight shall certainly be categorised as one of the most entertained of the year, where both the fighters were not in a mood of letting anything out of their hand. Maidana at the end was not quite convinced with the results.
"I thought I won," said Maidana."I thought I did enough in the final rounds to win the fight, but they gave it to him."
According the stats Khan landed 273 of 603 punches (45 percent), according to CompuBox statistics while Maidana was credited with landing 156 of 767 (20 percent). So comparing the stats it would be clear the agiliant Khan had done enough espacially in the earlier rounds where Maidana had given up way too many in those rounds.
Though afer such a rough and tough match has not quenched his thirst for more.He had more to offer, as he would like to meet thesuperstar Floyd Mayweather in 2011.Khan, however, likely will return to England for his next defense in the spring, but could move on to face the Alexander-Bradley winner later next year.If he makes it through it would be because of the experience he gained through this match where Maidana had made him to survive the hell.
