Roger Federer beats Davydenko to win Qatar Cup

Roger Federer beats Nikolay Davydenko in the finals to win the Qatar Cup. This is world number two third time to win this trophy, earlier being in 2005 and 2006. This also brings his 2011 to a very happy start.

Federer overcame the Russian by 6-3, 6-4 in bid to win his 67th title of this career. Davydenko earlier had beaten World number 1 Rafeal Nadal in the semis , who himself was not in a good touch, being in fever. This time in 2010, Davydenko had beaten Federer in the semis, so it proved to be redemption for him as well.

With such form Federer would take his confidence to Melbourne ,where he will be bidding for his 17th Grand Slam title.

"I cant believe the season is under way and I'm already on the board with a title.", said the overjoyed Swiss maestro.

Davydenko had been struggling from the start was as he was 3-0 in the first set, until he saved another of his six break points, but Federer went on to win first set 6-3. The next set was going neck on neck as they had tied on 4-4, but the mighty Federer took his chance and made his breakthrough by a break point and went on the win the set and the title.
