FIFA rewards World Cup top performers




With  the World Cup action over and all the votes tallied, the World Cup awards can now be handed out. And there’s a lot of gold to go around. There’s the Golden Ball for best player (plus silver and bronze for runners up), the 'Golden Boot' for top scorer, the 'Golden Glove' for best goalkeeper and the not so golden but still prestigious Best Young Player award.
The awards were presented to the players during a media and employee event by adidas Group CEO Herbert Hainer and FIFA Executive Committee member Franz Beckenbauer.



"The adidas Golden Awards are very prestigious awards recognizing outstanding talent on the world’s greatest football stage. I am honoured to be able to present them to the players," commented Franz Beckenbauer.

Three of the World Cup's best performers - Diego Forlan, Iker Casillas and Thomas Mueller , have been presented with their individual prizes at the adidas Golden Awards in Germany.


FIFA shortlisted 10 players ,and after the voting  Uruguayan striker Diego Forlan as the best player of the tournament. The silver ball was awarded to Holland's Wesley Sneijder and the bronze ball to David Villa of Spain.
On the other hand the Golden Glove award was bagged by Iker Casillas, Spain's World Cup winning captain.

 ’"It gives me huge satisfaction to receive the adidas Golden Glove Award and it is the perfect way to round off an unbelievable 2010 season. I hope that the success will continue in 2011."

German's Thomas Muller’s  was awarded with the prestigious  Golden Boot. Silver and bronze shoe went to Spain's David Villa  and Dutch Wesley Sneijder respectively.Muller said:

 "Winning the adidas Golden Boot is a great honour for me and something I didn’t expect going into the World Cup. I hope to be able to continue scoring goals for my club and country in 2011." 

He was also adjudged best young player of 2010 by the committee.Meanwhile, the world cup winner, Spain, also bagged the fair play award of world cup 2010.
