Kohli congratulating Sehwag on his century
Virendar Sehwag and Virat Kohli anchored a total demolition process as India went on to beat Bangladesh by 87 runs in the inaugural match of ICC  Cricket World Cup  2011. Both Sehwag and Kohli went on to build up a partnership of 203, which during the process totally dominated the Bangladesh bowler plundering them all over the park. Bangladesh on other hand made a sound start, showing aggression in the earlier part of the innings but were unable to build longer partnership and kept on losing wickets during the course of their innings. Tamim Iqbal top scored with 70 , followed by a half century from Captain Shakib-ul-Hasan.

India after being put into bat first by Bangladesh made their intentions pretty clear , with both Sehwag and Tendulkar showing their class made some strong statements. Tendulkar after making 29, got involved into a big mis-understanding  hence paying the price and got run out. Next Gautam Gambhir also went on playing some masterful shots, until he was undone by Mahmudullah on 39. After that there was no looking back, as both Sehwag and plundered the Bangla bowlers, and made a partnership of 203. During Sehwag's innings he went on to suffer from cramps hence calling Gambhir while he was 130 and went on to run till the end of his innings. Sehwag finally got out off the bowling of Shakib ul Hasan as he chopped the ball into the wickets while attempting to play a square cut. Kohli managed to get his century in the penultimate over.

Bangladesh started off briskly as they were 55 off just 6 overs, as Imrul Kayes went onto play some sweet strokes off the ground got out at 34. Rest all the batsman went on to make some good start , but were not as potent as were Sehwag and Kohli and after contributing went back to the pavillion. Shakib , and Junaid went on to score half centuries but still not enough to match the brilliance on Indian batsman. Munaf Patel was the pick of the bowlers as he got figures of 48-4.
